A little experiment
My modus operandi on online communities is the following:
- Find a group/community that I like
- Join
- Do an intro post
- Comment a couple of times in other post
- Ghost the group
- Provides likes or hearts from time to time.
Then after some time, I will realize that there is no point
for me to be part of this community, so I will leave.
Now, as part of this course I will try to be more active in
my engagement. I will join 2 groups or online communities where I will be an
active member and in another one, I will be a lurker. The purpose of this
activity is to see the learning potential these communities can have if used
properly.
For this activity I decided to go with fitness as my
category: I will join Hurdlers and No excuse runners. Hurdler is a podcast that
focuses on fitness, mental health and how to overcome the obstacles of life and
recently the author of the podcast decided to do a Facebook group to connect
everybody who listens the show. I have listened the podcast for quite some time,
and I follow the author on Instagram, so I thought it would be a good addition.
I planned to be an active participant in this group. No excuse runners is a
Facebook group for runners. People share tips, they latest PR and the races
they are training for. I plan to be a lurker in this community.
I am excited to try this experiment and depending on the
results it might help me to be more active or continue with my modus operandi.

Excited to learn more about your experiences with these groups!
ReplyDeleteAlso, laughing sooo bad to the memes all around your blog posts! :)
Yesss!! That was the idea behind the memes XD I am glad you enjoyed it
DeleteSounds like a great pick! Happy lurking :) Excited to hear about your experience. Are you a runner or hoping to start running? It is interesting how intertwined mental health and exercise are. I know on those days I miss exercising I feel lethargic or have more trouble focusing. I have felt lately overbooked with school work as I am going full-time, and have put off my exercise plan some days. Perhaps we can keep each other accountable?
ReplyDeleteI am a runner and I am currently training for my first marathon, but I am completely understand the feeling when you are not able to work out. I try my best to keep with a schedule but between school and work it can get complicated and when I am not able to work out I do feel very lethargic. I will be more than happy to be your buddy :)
